Revelations - The Golden Thread

REVELATIONS is a group exhibition featuring 30 artists from The Golden Thread, a loosely tied collective of femme artists living on Kombumerri Country/Gold Coast and surrounds, established in 2022.

Presented by ALOW Gallery The Golden Thread’s public debut will feature work in a multitude of mediums including painting, sculpture, textiles, photography, installation, video and performance. Centered around the provocation of Revelations, this exhibition explores the transformative impact of when something secret, hidden or previously unknown is revealed, often in an unexpected, enlightening or supernatural way.

Reaction_to_countess_report.wav is an urn shaped ceramic vessel inspired by the recently released Countess report on equity in the arts. ‘Word Art’ font warps to the vessels shape playfully highlighting resonant words from the report and critiquing the perception of female art as less serious or ‘real’. Encircling the vessel are soundwaves taken directly from a recording of the artist’s scream, capturing with humour the visceral frustration and urgency conveyed by the report's findings.

Categorized as both an act of catharsis and a distress signal, the work is a raw response to the persistent inequities and underscores the need for systemic change. The ceramic form substantiating the intangible experiences that have been so articulately and insightfully captured within the 2022 Countess report.
